Learn to create algae-based yarns by hand in a live, small-group workshop. Discover a unique technique developed through years of independent biomaterial research and experimentation, and explore how alginate can be transformed into flexible, workable yarns using simple tools and accessible ingredients. 1) Introduction
We’ll start with a quick intro to alginate, what it is, where it comes from, how it behaves, and how it turns from liquid to gel.
2) Hands-on
Then we’ll get hands on: mix your batch, test gestures/pigments/conditions, extrude and form yarns, and observe drying, shrinkage, and texture.
3) Included
You’ll leave with practical algae yarn know how, reusable methods, drying & care tips, a summary PDF, and access to our private Instagram chat.

About the facilitator
Emi BioLab is the independent practice of biomaterial designer and researcher Carola Emanuela Godja. Through years of independent research and material experimentation, she has developed original algae-based textile techniques that bridge biomaterials, craftsmanship, and contemporary fashion. Her work invites designers, artists, and curious makers to explore materials as living processes rather than fixed products.
